| General Job Description |
The Assistant Controller is similar to an apprenticeship.
Generally, the job involves creating, maintaining, analyzing and reporting U2’s financial records using the processes and tools associated with managing financial data.
Initially, key responsibilities include: generating payments (various mechanisms), making / recording deposits (including paper cheques), processing A/R transactions (posting),
processing A/P transactions (posting), transferring funds among the U2 group of companies, reconciling accounts, preparing financial reports, preparing and analyzing Key Performance Indicator (KPI) data, and maintaining the integrity of financial systems and data.
Over the course of approximately one year, the successful candidate will receive hands-on training related to all of the financial tasks and responsibilities at U2 Fasteners.
The incumbent will also become responsible for many of the tasks mastered as the training progresses.
There will be several performance reviews during the first year – simply to measure the incumbents progress through these steep learning curves, and increases in responsibility.

The Assistant Controller plays a key role in the operation and success of U2 Fasteners.
The Assistant Controller meets deadlines, and ensures that all areas of the business function efficiently and effectively.
The Assistant Controller must work harmoniously with a variety of people while adapting to changing conditions and unexpected obstacles.
The Assistant Controller is a life-long learner who keeps up with changes in the world and is comfortable continuously re-learning the skills they need to do their job.
The Assistant Controller needs to lead by example, experiment frequently, monitor many things regularly, and follow all company policies.
The Assistant Controller must also must be a good planner, respected manager and effective communicator.
The Assistant Controller must be prepared to take on the role of Controller upon the retirements of the VP Corporate and the Financial Consultant.
The Assistant Controller will have:
- an Accounting Designation (e.g., CPA) is desireable but not required
- a degree or diploma from a post-secondary programme in Business and / or Accounting is required
- above average knowledge of business processes and documents (quotes, orders, invoices, credit notes, purchase orders, etc.)
- ability to create and use: budgets, business plans, cash flow, financial statements, etc.
- 3 to 5 years of financial experience preferred
- above average computer skills (Windows, Excel, Word, Outlook, Backup software, Payroll packages, etc.)
- experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems - SYPRO preferred
- excellent English written (including technical documentation and business writing) and verbal communication skills
- fluency in other languages (especially French and Spanish) would be an asset
- management and leadership skills
- organization and time management skills
- interest / mastery of several technologies (e.g., auditing tools, artificial intelligence, report writers, etc.)
- a recent, clean criminal record check
- a valid passport, and ability to travel inside and outside Canada (e.g. USA)

| Other Information |
This is a salary (not hourly) professional position.
The successful candidate will ensure that accounting functions are covered the hours the business is open, and that deadlines
(e.g., payroll, payments, month end processing, weekly reporting, tax filing, etc.) are all met.
Work from home, and work outside of normal working hours are expected for this position.
The number of paid holidays is negotiable.
The salary for this position is being researched - and will be competitive - but will vary applicant-by-applicant based on: education, accounting designation, and experience.
